Today’s blog marks the start of National Adoption Week and Colleges Week.
National Adoption Week
Today, Monday 15 October, marks the start of National Adoption Week. This week offers the chance to raise awareness about adoption, encourage others to consider adoption and also appreciate the families who have helped to transform the lives of their children.
Adoption offers a fantastic opportunity for both a family and a child to enrich their lives. The Adoption Support Fund has helped this process by providing more than £90 million, supporting thousands of families across England since May 2015.
Minister for Children and Families Nadhim Zahawi said:
Every child deserves a loving, stable home that's right for them so they have the opportunity to flourish. Adoption can transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children - and their adoptive families - in a remarkable way.
We are determined to support families every step of the way through their adoption journey, and I hope as a result of National Adoption Week more people will think about opening up their homes and hearts to the many children out there who are still waiting for this kind of stability.

Colleges Week
Today, Monday 15 October, is the start of Colleges Week. This is a chance to celebrate the key role our further education colleges and providers play in the country’s education system and the fantastic work that they do.
Further Education is hugely important - helping people of all ages and backgrounds to gain the skills they need to get a great jobs or prepare them for further study.
Colleges educate and train over 2 million people per year, from basic skills to higher education courses. In fact, most of the higher level technical education in this country is taught in FE colleges, and form 2020 around 50 colleges and FE providers will teach the first T Levels – the technical equivalent A Levels.
Once fully rolled out we will be investing £500m each year to support the delivery of T Levels and we have recently announced a further £38m to help the first T Level providers invest in high quality equipment and facilities. We have also recently announced the colleges and further education providers who will be the first to benefit from our Taking Teaching Further programme, which will add capacity to the existing brilliant FE workforce and give industry experts a chance to join the FE workforce and pass on their skills to the next generation.
